Featuring “the world’s first” 5.3-inch Super AMOLED 1280×800 multi-touch screen, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based Galaxy Note lets users take notes and make drawings on the go with the included S Pen and S Memo app. Phone calls can be done like on every other Android smartphone.

Samsung Kies just notified us about an update for our Galaxy Note mobile, with the upgrade adding in a tweaked keyboard, altered lock screen and plenty of other minor tweaks and changes to the settings. Here’s what’s included:

  • Keyboard now has five rows with the number row being always visible. Moreover, there’s a new “one hand” mode that shrinks the layout, making it easier to type with one hand only.(screenshot for indian version of updated keyboard thanks to : GAURANG_ARORA)

  • Preinstalled torch widget that supports three different brightness levels – you cycle through them by continuously tapping the widget.
  • Ability to set different brightness level for the browser, saving you some battery juice along the way.
  • Improved lockscreen with arrows around the padlock, encouraging you to swipe to unlock. A line of text telling you what to do has also been added.
  • Calendar app now supports different date formats.
  • The 70MB update should now be available over-the-air in Europe on unlocked devices but if you’re using a carrier Galaxy Note you might have to wait a little while for your network to get things sorted.
